One more banquet left here in Oklahoma - tonight we'll be speaking at Enid, rounding out our Oklahoma audience to around 500 people. After night 1, things have been going mostly smoothly but we've been having microphone difficulties the last couple banquets - mine on night 3 and Jason's on night 4. We're hoping that tonight, on night 5, all the kinks will have worked themselves out.
We've had mostly positive responses to what we've been sharing - some others have reported "typical" comments to us like "Why don't they all just learn English" or "Why can't we just make it so there's 1 universal sign language"...and there's been a few glares...but all in all, not bad for a touchy subject :). Many many more people are responding with comments like "I never knew people hide their deaf children!" and "I had no idea there was more than one sign language in the world", "I never thought of sign language Bible translation", or "ya'all must be working harder than you ever have in your life" and the very very typical question of: "how old are you?!" Ha.
Last night, in Oklahoma City, we expected 70 to come and 85 ended up attending! We scrambled for an extra table and chairs and the caterers were amazing at flexing with us - that's a good problem to have! We're really maxing out the expected numbers each night so that's exciting...and on a cute note, a little girl came up to me and asked for my autograph! That's a first!
