Sammy
Sammy is coming along - some days he is a complete angel and other days, like yesterday, we don't know what's going on. This morning he's doing great again. It's one of the rewarding things of doing foster care for dogs - getting to see them go from scared to trusting, starving to filled-out, and generally learn to live again after whatever crazy story they've been through - we rarely know their history. Sammy has some serious attachment issues and is absolutely terrified of being left alone in his crate - so much so that yesterday when we stuck him in there for 15 minutes so we could eat outside without him barking at the squirrels in the tree branches above, we got back to him with bloody paws and tail because he had been whipping and ripping at the cage. Pretty sad. But we've seen good strides too - we can now let him sleep in the living room with our bedroom door shut for a straight 5 hours before he is whining and scratching at our door to have some company. That's pretty good considering that a week ago he was curled up on his dog bed on the floor at the base of our bed. There's hope for him. Sometimes, like yesterday, it doesn't feel like it but there really is. Now if we can just find him a good home.
